We are in the middle of summer, and while fun in the sun time is the best, it is important to keep your skin healthy and radiant. Whether you need to soothe a sunburn, protect against UV rays, or keep pesty bugs from biting you, I’ve got you covered.
I know you are busy, so I have a list of easy, effective ways to care for your skin with less harsh chemicals.
Sun Protection
- Use a mineral sunscreen with zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide for a physical sun barrier between your skin and those harsh UV rays. Here are a few of my favorites: one, two, three.
- Wear a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses to shield your face and eyes from the sun.
Hydration
- Keep your skin hydrated with a facial mist made from rosewater. Our Soothing Mist is rosewater based to keep your skin refreshed and moisturized.
- Drink at least half your body weight in water ounces every day and indulge in some moisturize-rich summer foods like watermelon and cucumbers.
Sunburn Relief
- Mist your burned skin with our Soothing Mist, the rosewater is hydrating and has a cooling-effect that your skin will love. Plus, this feels amazing on a sunburn.
- Apply pure aloe vera gel preferably from an aloe plant leaf (these can be found in the produce section if you do not have an aloe plant) to provide instant soothing relief and the aloe will help to heal the burned skin.
- Once the sunburn is no longer warm to touch, add an additional layer of our Face Serum to heal the skin so it does not peel (or if it does peel, the new skin will be nourished).
- Finally, after your sunburn skin is no longer radiating heat, use our cooling Cucumber Mint Body Lotion to reduce redness and add extended hydration.
Bug Bite Care
- Dab a drop of lavender or tea tree essential oil on bug bites to reduce itching and inflammation.
- Our sugar body scrubs can be used to gently exfoliate the skin around bug bites to further reduce skin irritation and speed up healing.
Gentle Cleansing
- During warm months, use a gentle facial cleanser with non-toxic ingredients to remove sweat, sunscreen, and dirt without stripping your skin of its natural oils that are needed.
- Add a weekly Charcoal Face Mask to draw out impurities and keep your pores extra clean.
Moisturize
- Choose a lightweight, low-toxin moisturizer with ingredients like Vitamin E and Rosehip Oil to keep your skin deeply moisturized and soft without feeling greasy.
- Our Face Serum is a special blend that provides deep hydration and a healthy glow.
Cool Down
- Use a chilled facial ice roller to reduce puffiness and cool down after a hot day in the sun.
- Make your own refreshing body spray with peppermint essential oil and water to mist on hot days or use our Soothing Mist which refreshes and hydrates with rosewater benefits.
Exfoliate
- Exfoliate your skin twice a week to remove the layer of dead skin cells that builds up.
- Our cucumber mint or sweet vanilla body scrubs not only exfoliate but nourish your skin with shea butter and moisturizing oils.
Night Skin Care
- After a day in the sun, pamper your skin with a calming nighttime routine.
- Start with a gentle cleanser, follow with a soothing mist, and end with a hydrating moisturizer or serum.
Travel Skin Care
- Keep a travel set of our skincare essentials handy for on-the-go skin refreshing. Our travel set is perfect for summer adventures.
Enjoy the sunshine and remember to take these simple steps to keep your skin healthy and glowing all summer long!
